We decided to take the East River Ferry back from Dumbo to Long Island City, which was a really great choice. I absolutely love being on the water, and it gave us a great opportunity to take photos of views of the city which we might not have seen otherwise.

There are plenty of boat tours available in New York, but since I generally prefer to pretend to be a local when I go away somewhere, I was very happy on the commuter boat – the view is the same, after all!

With eight terminals along the route, the East River Ferry can take you to Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and seasonally, to Governors Island. A single trip costs $4 during the week. That’s not much more than a single ticket on the subway ($2.75), and I think it’s worth it for the view.
